His body should be in well condition. You should check the Speaker, Camera, TouchPad, Display and whole Body, You should check everything. 

There should not be any broken part if any part is broken then don't buy that. Because that broken part can never work properly, You should check keyboard by opening a website Keyboard Tester  in that website you can check your all keyboard's button without any problem. 

For checking the Display you should that, is there not any dead pixel on the screen?, that will be shown black color, if you find any dead pixel on screen then don't buy that. 

You should check the speakers by playing any song, You check the in-built camera by opening a website Webcam Tester, after it you should check the another one.

2. Processor Performance-

Without processor your laptop or computer cannot run and your computer should have a good processor. Now a days the most popular and good rated processors are  intel i3, intel i5 and intel i7 

you should buy one of these processors, if owner is telling you that his processor is good then you should search information about that processor on the GOOGLE.

3. Memory Storage-

Memory is part of computer where your data will be stored. There are two type of memory in computer the first one is RAM and second one is HARD DISK. If you have less RAM is then your computer will became slow. You should purchase the computer with RAM minimum 2GB. And your hard disk should have storage more than 200GB either your computer will became slow. You can also add external more RAM to your computer. 

 4. Battery Backup-

The Battery is the power source of the computer or laptop. A normal Battery can run your Laptop minimum 4 hours. For Battery performance i will personally recommend you that start a timer and check that in 10 Minutes how much battery reduces, then you can calculate  till how much time your laptop can run with 100% Battery. If your Battery is reducing the power less than 5% in just 10 minutes then your battery is good for the laptop. Or if you reducing less than 3% then your battery is one of the best.

After checking the performance of battery, you should check the capacity of charger means, How much time your charger is talking to fully charge your computer or Laptop.
